چکیده

This work proposes a simple but robust 4-node 24-DOF facet shell element for static analysis of small-scale thin structures. To accommodate the size effects, modified couple stress theory is employed as theoretical basis. The constructed via two main innovations. First, trial functions that can priori satisfy related governing differential equations are adopted basic formulating interpolations. Second, generalized conforming and penalty function method to meet C1 continuity requirement in weak sense ensuring computation convergence property. Several benchmarks shells with different geometries tested assess new element's capability. numerical results reveal effectively simulate size-dependent mechanical behaviors shells, exhibiting satisfactory accuracy low susceptibility mesh distortion. Moreover, uses only six degrees freedom per node, it be incorporated into commonly available finite programs very readily.

An Efficient Strain Based Cylindrical Shell Finite Element

The need for compatibility between degrees of freedom of various elements is a major problem encountered in practice during the modeling of complex structures; the problem is generally solved by an additional rotational degree of freedom [1-3]. This present paper investigates possible improvements to the performances of strain based cylindrical shell finite element [4] by introducing an additio...

An Efficient Co Finite Element Approach for Bending Analysis of Functionally Graded Ceramic-Metal Skew Shell Panels

In this article, the prominence has been given to study the influence of skew angle on bending response of functionally graded material shell panels under thermo-mechanical environment. Derivation of governing equations is based on the Reddy’s higher-order shear deformation theory and Sander’s kinematic equations. To circumvent the problem of C1 continuity requirement coupled with the finite el...

Free Vibration Analysis of Nonuniform Microbeams Based on Modified Couple Stress Theory: an Analytical Solution

In this study, analytical solution is presented to calculate the free vibration frequencies of nonuniform microbeams. Scale effects are modelled using modified couple stress theory and the microbeam is assumed to be thin while Poisson's ratio effects are also taken into account. Nonuniformity is presented by exponentially varying width among the microbeam while the thickness remains constant. R...

A new elasticity element made for enforcing weak stress symmetry

We introduce a new mixed method for linear elasticity. The novelty is a simplicial element for the approximate stress. For every positive integer k, the row-wise divergence of the element space spans the set of polynomials of total degree k. The degrees of freedom are suited to achieve continuity of the normal stresses. What makes the element distinctive is that its dimension is the smallest re...
